A Heart Learning to Care
The following is a testimony of a student Yaroslav from Kemin School.
Testimony| April 2026|Kemin Boarding school
Yaroslav lives with his mother and two brothers. His mother is raising all three children on her own. Yaroslav has a mild intellectual disability and joined our school three years ago. He is now in the eighth grade.
Before coming to our school, Yaroslav attended a mainstream school. He struggled to keep up with his classmates, which often led to teasing and made him reluctant to attend school. His mother worked hard to provide for her children, but because of her work responsibilities, she could not always give him the attention and support he needed.
When Yaroslav first arrived, he was very withdrawn and insecure. His twin brother also attends our school, and even their relationship was often marked by conflict. Over time, however, Yaroslav began to experience the love and care of God through relationships with teachers and staff, worship songs, encouragement, and moments of comfort and support.
Gradually, we saw remarkable changes in both: his character and his relationships with others. He began participating in worship by singing with the other students, which helped him become more open and friendly. Today, he gets along well with his classmates and rarely has conflicts. Instead, he is often one of the first to help others. He pays special attention to younger children or those who need extra assistance, helping them get ready and looking for ways to serve those around him.
His mother has also noticed these changes at home. Yaroslav has become more helpful with household chores and more considerate toward family members. Sometimes he even volunteers to pray before meals, thanking God for the food and for the hands that prepared it. His mother is encouraged by these signs of spiritual growth and is happy to see her son developing a personal faith. The adults around Yaroslav have witnessed his transformation into a kind, friendly young man who can build positive relationships with his peers. After character-building lessons, he often stays behind to help clean the classroom, taking the initiative without being asked. He wants to leave the room tidy and welcoming for others.
We are grateful for the growth we have seen in Yaroslav's life and pray that God will continue to guide him as he follows His path.
